Kano Gov's Aide, Tofa Evades Arrest by Hiding in Government House for Five Days

Sunusi Dawakin Tofa, the Director General of Media and Communication to Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State, has revealed that he spent five days hiding in the Kano State Government House to avoid arrest.

This revelation was made during an address at the PR Nigeria Young Communication Fellowship held in Kano.

Tofa explained that his decision to seek refuge within the government premises was driven by the constitutional immunity it provides, which prevents arrests without the governor's explicit instruction. "For the last five days, I have been in the government house and could not come out," Tofa stated.

He further elaborated on the political tensions in Kano, describing them as a "federal versus state fight."

The situation escalated when a petition against Tofa led to the deployment of 40 officers from the Inspector General of Police monitoring the team to Kano with the intent to arrest him.

Despite this, Tofa attended the fellowship event, citing three reasons: his commitment to the event, a court order restricting his arrest, and his preparedness to resist any arrest attempts.

Tofa emphasized the importance of mentorship in his address, advising young communicators to seek guidance from mentors.

"In my entire life, I believe so much in maintaining a mentor," he said, highlighting the value of diverse perspectives in decision-making.

Yusha’ Shu’aib, the chief executive of PR Nigeria, also addressed the gathering, underscoring the evolving nature of communication in the digital age.

He stressed the significance of fact-checking and the role of technology, including Artificial Intelligence and social media, in modern communication.
