In response to escalating violence during the ongoing #Endbadgovernance protests, the Kaduna State Government has enforced a stringent 24-hour curfew on the metropolitan cities of Kaduna and Zaria.
This decision, effective immediately, was announced on Monday, August 5th, 2024, following an emergency security council meeting presided over by Governor Uba Sani.
The Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, stated that the curfew was necessitated after the protests were hijacked by criminal elements who began looting shops and destroying both private and public properties.
The government’s swift action aims to restore order and protect citizens from further harm.
Residents have been advised to remain indoors while security forces work tirelessly to maintain safety and order.
This measure is part of a broader response to similar unrest in other states, including Plateau and Katsina, which have also imposed curfews to curb violent protests.
In Plateau, Governor Caleb Mutfwang declared a 24-hour curfew on the Jos-Bukuru metropolis starting from midnight on Sunday, August 4th, 2024.
Meanwhile, the Katsina Police Command continues to enforce a curfew in Dutsinma Local Government Area and a 12-hour curfew from 7:00 pm to 7:00 am across the remaining 33 LGAs of the state.
The Kaduna State Security Council emphasized that the curfew will be monitored and reviewed as necessary to ensure the safety and security of all residents.
