The National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNMW), Kaduna State Branch, has officially called off its indefinite strike.
The strike, which began on Wednesday, October 2nd, was suspended following successful negotiations with the Kaduna State Government.
The resolution came after a pivotal meeting held on Thursday, October 24, led by Deputy Governor Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe.
The discussions included union leaders and key government officials such as the Secretary to the State Government, the Head of Service, and the Commissioner of Health.
During the meeting, the governor's commitment to improving the welfare of health workers and all state employees was emphasized.
A crucial outcome of the meeting was the establishment of a committee on Labour matters, chaired by the Deputy Governor, tasked with expediting negotiations regarding the new minimum wage with labor unions.
This committee is expected to submit a report within seven days, ensuring that the demands of health workers are considered in the new wage structure.
"The government's dedication to addressing our concerns and ensuring better working conditions is evident," stated a union representative.
In a circular issued to its members, signed by Public Relations Officer and Acting Secretary Conrade Yashi G. Nassa, the NANNMW urged nurses and midwives to resume their duties starting at 12 PM on Friday, October 25.
The union expressed appreciation for the government's willingness to engage in dialogue, highlighting the importance of solutions that benefit both the workers and the citizens they serve.
