Global superstar Jennifer Lopez has filed for divorce from her husband, actor Ben Affleck, after two years of marriage. The news was confirmed on Tuesday, August 20, through legal documents obtained by ABC News and an entry on the Los Angeles Superior Court docket.
Lopez and Affleck, often referred to as "Bennifer," rekindled their romance in 2021 after initially dating in the early 2000s. They first tied the knot in a private ceremony in Las Vegas in July 2022, followed by a more elaborate celebration in Georgia a month later. Reflecting on their reunion, Lopez had previously shared, "It's a beautiful love story that we got a second chance."
Despite their efforts to blend their families and support each other's careers, the couple faced challenges. Reports indicated that they had been living separately, with Lopez canceling her summer tour to focus on family matters.
Additionally, they sold their Beverly Hills home, further fueling speculation about their relationship status.
Both stars have children from previous marriages. Lopez shares 16-year-old twins, Max and Emme, with ex-husband Marc Anthony, while Affleck has three children—Violet, Seraphina, and Samuel—with ex-wife Jennifer Garner.
Their relationship has always been under the media spotlight, from their initial engagement in 2002, which was called off due to "excessive media attention," to their highly publicized reunion in 2021.
Affleck once remarked on their relationship's public nature, saying, "My life now reflects not just the person that I want to be, but the person that I really feel like I am – which is not perfect, but somebody who tries very hard and cares very much about being honest and authentic and accountable."
