Imo Gov Uzodimma Approves N70,000 Minimum Wage for State Workers

Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has announced the approval of a new minimum wage of ₦70,000 for workers in the state. This decision was made public at the Government House in Owerri following a meeting with organized labor leaders.

Governor Uzodimma emphasized the government's commitment to the welfare of Imo workers and pensioners, describing it as a "sacred obligation."

He stated, "Our commitment as a government to the welfare of Imo workers and pensioners remains a sacred obligation, and we have exemplified this once more with the approval for the implementation of the national minimum wage of N70,000 for Imo State workers."

The governor highlighted that this decision resulted from extensive consultations with labor leaders, underscoring the administration's dedication to improving living conditions for the workforce.

In addition to the new minimum wage, a 10% salary increment was approved for employees on consolidated salary structures. Furthermore, the government committed to paying outstanding pension and gratuity arrears, reflecting promotions recently earned by employees, and maintaining the regular 13th-month salary payment.

Governor Uzodimma also announced plans to enroll pensioners into the State Healthcare Services Scheme for free medical care. The announcement was met with appreciation from labor leaders, including the NLC Chairman, Comrade Uche Chigemezu Nwaigwe, who praised the governor for his "benevolence to Imo workers" and assured that workers would reciprocate by being more dedicated and productive.
