Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), show the pivotal role that prosecution plays in the fight against corruption.
Dr. Aliyu emphasized that the effective prosecution of cases is essential to the success of anti-corruption efforts.
"The investigation and prosecution mandate of the Commission is very critical in the fight against corruption," Dr. Aliyu stated. He highlighted that public perception is significantly influenced by the trial of corruption cases and the recovery of looted funds.
"The perception of the ordinary man on the street is tied to the trial of cases in court and recoveries of looted funds," he added. Dr. Aliyu also called on judges to integrate technology into the trial process, noting that "new case management systems are being innovated for an effective and efficient justice delivery system."
This integration is part of a broader strategy to enhance the judiciary's role in combating corruption through technological advancements, strategic partnerships, and a focus on both prevention and active prosecution.
The ICPC has been proactive in its approach, launching an armed squad and prioritizing prevention over enforcement.
Additionally, the organization seeks to collaborate with state attorneys-general to bolster accountability and transparency.
