Ibadan Stampede: President Tinubu Calls for Thorough Investigation


A stampede at a children's funfair in Ibadan, Oyo State, has resulted in the tragic loss of 35 young lives, with many others sustaining injuries.


The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, December 18, has prompted an outpouring of grief and calls for accountability from various quarters.


President Bola Tinubu, expressing deep sorrow over the tragedy, extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and the people of Oyo State.


In a statement released by his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, the President emphasized the need for a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. "It is imperative to determine whether negligence or deliberate actions contributed to this painful incident," the statement read, showing the necessity for transparency and accountability.


The President also urged the Oyo State Government to implement robust measures to prevent such tragedies in the future. "No event should ever compromise the safety of our children or take precedence over their lives," he asserted, reiterating his administration's commitment to child safety and well-being.
