Ibadan Indigenes Demand FG Probe Into Persistent Power Outages at UCH

The Legacy Stars of Ibadan (LSI), representing the indigenes of Ibadan, have called for an investigation into the persistent power outages at the University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan.

These disruptions, reportedly due to unpaid debts to the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), have severely impacted medical services and patient care at this critical healthcare facility.

During their monthly meeting, LSI emphasized the urgency of the situation, urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, to "probe the current and previous management of the hospital."

The group's statement, issued by its President, Mogaji Saheed Oyewale, and Secretary, Barrister Kazeem Oladepo, highlighted the dire consequences of these outages:

"Many people who were supposed to get medical attention in the hospital could not be attended to, and this will have negative consequences on the health outcome of the people in general."

The power supply issues at UCH began earlier this year when electricity was cut off in March due to outstanding debts. Although temporarily resolved through intervention, the problem has resurfaced, prompting LSI's call for a thorough investigation.

"We observed that this is an embarrassment," the group stated, showing the need for immediate federal intervention to prevent further degradation of essential health services.
