English professional footballer and Chelsea star, Cole Jermaine Palmer recently revealed in an interview with British GQ that he was initially hesitant to join Chelsea from Manchester City.
"I wasn’t even gonna go [to] Chelsea," Palmer admitted, explaining that it was his manager who ultimately persuaded him to make the move to the west London club. Palmer had initially hoped for a season-long loan to gain more playing time but was faced with the decision to either leave City permanently or stay.
Palmer's transfer to Chelsea was finalized on deadline day in September 2023 for a fee potentially rising to £42.5 million ($54.1 million). Despite the rushed nature of his departure from Manchester City, where he didn't have the chance for a proper farewell, Palmer quickly made his mark at Chelsea.
In his debut season, he scored 25 goals and provided 15 assists in 46 appearances, earning six end-of-season awards. His impressive performances continued into the 2024–25 season, where he signed a new nine-year contract with Chelsea, securing his place at the club until at least June 2033.
Palmer's journey at Chelsea has been marked by major achievements, including being named the Premier League Young Player of the Season and winning the PFA Fans' Player of the Year award. His contributions have been pivotal, as he became the first Chelsea player aged 21 or under to score 10 Premier League goals in a season and the third player in the club's history to score at least 20 goals in his debut season.
