Natacha Anita Akide, popularly known as Tacha, a former Big Brother Naija housemate, has recently made headlines with her decision to relocate to the United Kingdom.
This move marks a pivotal chapter in her life and career, as she seeks to explore new opportunities beyond the borders of Nigeria. In an exclusive chat with British media personality Madame Joyce, Tacha opened up about the reasons behind her relocation, shedding light on her motivations and future aspirations.
Tacha's journey to fame began in 2019 when she participated in the Big Brother Naija reality TV show. Despite her controversial exit from the show due to physical aggression towards a fellow housemate, Tacha managed to carve out a successful career in the entertainment industry. Over the years, she has become a prominent figure, not only in Nigeria but also internationally, thanks to her dynamic presence and entrepreneurial spirit.
In her conversation with Madame Joyce, Tacha revealed that her decision to move to the UK was driven by her belief that she had "conquered" the Nigerian market.
She stated, "I relocated to the UK because I have conquered the whole of the Nigerian market. Relocating to the UK doesn’t mean I’m not going to do Nigerian deals. If the offer is good, why not?" This statement signifies her confidence in her achievements in Nigeria and her desire to expand her horizons.
Tacha's relocation is part of a broader trend among Nigerian celebrities who are seeking opportunities abroad. In recent years, several notable figures, including Wizkid, Eldee, Dr. Sid, Genevieve Nnaji, Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, Rita Dominic, Uche Jombo, and Emeka Ike, have made similar moves. The allure of international markets and the potential for growth and exposure are compelling factors driving this migration.
While Tacha's relocation signifies a new beginning, it does not imply a complete severance from her roots. She emphasized that she remains open to engaging in Nigerian projects, provided the terms are favorable.
"With me being in the UK, I am representing Nigeria; I’ve already conquered the whole of the Nigerian market. Relocating to the UK doesn’t mean that I won’t take Naija deals. If the money is good, fine, why not?" she explained.
One of the challenges Tacha highlighted during her discussion was the financial aspect of working in the Nigerian market. She pointed out that the compensation for influencers and entertainers often falls short of expectations.
"The influencing scene in Nigeria looks so beautiful, but behind the scenes, it’s not as beautiful as it seems because the money is poor. Someone would pay you N6 million, that’s around $3,000, for you to influence for six months and post two videos a month," she noted. This disparity between perceived success and actual earnings is a common issue faced by many in the industry.
Despite these challenges, Tacha has managed to diversify her portfolio and expand her brand. She has ventured into the fashion industry, launching her merchandise, and has also worked as a radio host at Cool FM. Recently, she expanded her business ventures into sports by launching a football club called Tacha FC. These endeavors reflect her entrepreneurial acumen and determination to succeed in various fields.
