Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Nyesom Wike has made a bold statement regarding his political affiliations.
In a recent report Wike declared, "I'm not scared of defecting to APC," referring to the All Progressives Congress, the ruling party in Nigeria.
Wike's assertion comes in the context of explaining his decision not to support Atiku Abubakar, the PDP candidate, during the 2023 presidential election.
He cited issues of "equity and fairness" within the PDP as the primary reasons for his lack of support, stating, "I came out in this country, and I said I was not going to support your (Atiku) presidency because you’re not fair; there’s no justice, no equity as far as PDP was concerned."
Wike emphasized his consistency and transparency in political dealings, contrasting himself with others who might say one thing publicly and another privately.
He stated, "Nigerians know me, I’ll say something I’ll do, and I’ll do. What I will not do, I will not do." This highlights a pattern of straightforwardness that he claims to uphold in his political career.
In addressing rumors or assumptions about his potential defection to the APC, Wike clarified that he had no prior conversations with President Bola Tinubu regarding such a move.
He asserted, "I never spoke with the President any day, and say look, 'I’ll go to APC', I never told anybody that, and nobody should think that I’m afraid that if I want to join APC, I cannot join APC."
