Popular Nigerian singer and record producer Tekno has addressed swirling rumors about his health after a video purportedly showing him collapsing on stage in South Africa went viral. Reports had claimed that Tekno, who is currently on his music tour, collapsed during a live performance.
However, Tekno took to Instagram to clarify the situation, stating, "Hey guys, I’m hale and hearty and not currently in South Africa. I hope whoever that was in the video is doing well and ok. Thank you, guys. Love you."
The video, which stirred concern among fans, showed a man believed by many to be Tekno being attended to by security personnel. This led to widespread misinformation and anxiety among his supporters.
Fellow Afrobeats artist Mr. Eazi also debunked the rumors, humorously noting on X (formerly Twitter), "Lmao Tekno wey dey Malabo," indicating that Tekno was actually in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, and not South Africa as reported.
A fact-checking investigation by Punch Metro further revealed that the person in the video was not Tekno but Kenyan rapper Jackson Ngechu, popularly known as CMB Prezzo.
The incident occurred on June 6, 2024, during an interview with an online media outlet in Kenya. This revelation confirmed that the claims about Tekno collapsing were false.
