‘I Collected $400,000 on Behalf of Godwin Emefiele’ - Witness tells Court

The former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele a key witness has come forward with crucial testimony.

Mr. John Adetola, who served as Emefiele's Executive Assistant, testified in court that he collected $400,000 on behalf of his former boss.

Adetola detailed the transaction, explaining that he was instructed via WhatsApp by Mr. Eric Odoh, the personal assistant to the CBN Governor in Abuja, to retrieve the money from John Ayoh, the former director of the ICT Department.

"In 2018, I can’t remember the date, the personal assistant to the CBN Gov in Abuja, Mr. Eric Odoh sent me a message on WhatsApp that I should go and collect $400,000 from John Ayoh," Adetola recounted. He further explained that he delivered the money to Emefiele when he arrived in Lagos.

The testimony also touched upon Adetola's communication with Emefiele and his family members, including Mr. George, Mr. Okanta, and Mrs. Margaret Emefiele.

Additionally, Adetola mentioned Henry Omoile, Emefiele's co-defendant, who lived in Emefiele’s house in Lagos.

During the proceedings, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) presented documents retrieved from Adetola's phone, which included office correspondences related to the case.

Although Emefiele's defense initially objected to the admissibility of these documents, they were eventually accepted by Justice Rahman Oshodi for identification purposes only.
