Kano witnessed a surge in violence as hoodlums infiltrated the #EndBadGovernance nationwide protests.
The unrest led to significant vandalism and arson at key locations, including the newly built Digital Industrial Park (DIP) of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the premises of the State High Court. The NCC office, located along State Road and set to be commissioned on August 7, suffered extensive damage with equipment worth billions of naira looted.
The chaos extended to the State High Court where two vehicles were set ablaze. Protesters also targeted journalists, vandalizing the official bus of Channels Television and smashing its windscreen.
The violent spree saw vehicle screens smashed, drivers harassed, and mobile phones snatched from pedestrians. Tensions escalated across various areas of Kano as demonstrators voiced their grievances over soaring food prices.
In a related judicial development, the Kano High Court issued a 48-hour ultimatum on July 5, 2024, for Justices Yusuf and Adamu to resign from their executive appointments on Governor Abba Yusuf's probe panels or face severe consequences.
This order came amidst ongoing legal battles involving former governor Abdullahi Ganduje and the current administration.
