Trailer loaded with 600 bags of fertilizer was ambushed and looted by hoodlums in a recent incident in Adamawa State.
The event took place near the palace of the paramount traditional ruler of Demsa, Hama Batta. The fertilizer, procured by the state government, was intended for local farmers to support agricultural activities during the rainy season.
The Demsa Local Government Area (LGA) Chairman, Hon Akam Sanda Jallo, confirmed the incident and attributed the mishap to negligence on the part of the vendor responsible for transporting the fertilizer.
According to Jallo, the vendor failed to inform him about the journey, which would have allowed for better coordination and security measures. He stated, "The vendor saddled with the transportation of the fertiliser from Yola would have waited to get go-ahead instructions from me before bringing the fertilizer to Demsa."
Witnesses reported that the truck fell due to the poor condition of the road, providing an opportunity for the looters to strike. The chairman mentioned that a prime suspect had been identified as the instigator behind the looting but refrained from disclosing the individual's identity.
He also dismissed rumors that the looters were part of the #EndBadGovernance protesters, emphasizing that the protestors in Adamawa had been peaceful.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Adamawa State, SP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed the looting and assured that police operatives were diligently working to apprehend those involved.
He reiterated, "The looters are not those protesting in the state. The #EndBadGovernmance people in Adamawa State have been very peaceful."
