Helicopter Crash in Port Harcourt Claims Three Lives


A tragic helicopter accident occurred in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria, resulting in the loss of three lives.


The incident involved a Sikorsky SK76 helicopter, registered as 5NBQG, operated by East Wind Aviation.


The aircraft was en route from the Port Harcourt Military Base to the Nuimantan oil rig when it crashed into the Atlantic Ocean near Bonny Finima.


According to Odutayo Oluseyi, spokesperson for the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, "The helicopter ditched into the waters at approximately 11:22 am on Thursday.


Rescue efforts have been activated to locate and assist any survivors." There were eight individuals on board at the time of the crash.


This unfortunate event underscores the persistent safety challenges faced in aviation, particularly concerning offshore transportation.


The accident has prompted discussions about enhancing safety measures to prevent future occurrences.
