Music executive Banky W recently shared insights into the early career of global afrobeat sensation Wizkid.
In a viral video, Banky W, who played a crucial role in launching Wizkid's career through his record label Empire Mates Entertainment (EME), described Wizkid's humble beginnings as a "studio rat." This term was used to illustrate Wizkid's relentless dedication and perseverance during his formative years in the music industry.
Banky W recounted how Wizkid spent countless hours in various studios, unable to afford studio time due to financial constraints. Despite these challenges, Wizkid's commitment to his craft was unwavering.
Banky W noted, "Wizkid for a long time in his life was not fortunate enough to afford studio time. So he was a studio rat as he would go to any studio where they would let him hang out."
This period of struggle and determination massively shaped Wizkid's songwriting abilities. Banky W highlighted Wizkid's process of constantly working on hooks and melodies, ready to seize any opportunity to record, even if it was just for a few minutes.
He remarked, "He didn’t have time to think about what to write at the moment, so that became his process. And now he is one of the fastest songwriters that I have ever encountered in my life."
