Governor Idris Vows to Stop Import of Criminals into Kebbi State

Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has issued a stern warning to residents about the potential threat posed by external agitators aiming to disrupt the peace in the region.

In a broadcast addressing the first day of the #EndBadGovernance protests, Governor Idris revealed that intelligence reports indicated plans by certain "disgruntled elements" to import miscreants into Kebbi with the intent to cause mayhem.

Governor Idris emphasized that these individuals were targeting key areas such as Birnin Kebbi, Argungu, Jega, Yauri and Zuru town.

He stated, “Information available to us states that some people are trying to import miscreants from other places into Kebbi to cause mayhem, especially in Birnin Kebbi, Argungu, Jega, Yauri and Zuru town.” He further noted that the peaceful nature of Kebbi's residents was being exploited by those seeking personal gain through chaos.

The governor expressed his dismay at the targeting of public utilities, particularly the waterboard, which serves the community.

He remarked, “Available information at hand states that some people want to go to waterboard to perfect their vandalism mission, but it baffles me to hear that they are targeting waterboard. What do they want at a place that serves the public?”

Governor Idris appealed to the protesters to reconsider their actions for the sake of maintaining peace and progress in Kebbi. He warned that any destruction of public or private property would ultimately harm the residents of Kebbi themselves.

“If you destroy public utilities, it belongs to the Kebbi people. If you destroy people’s shops and steal their property, it’s the same Kebbi people that will suffer,” he cautioned.

In his address, Governor Idris reassured the public that the government was actively working to address their grievances and urged the protest organizers to halt their activities.

He concluded, “Therefore, we want to plead with the organisers to see reason in putting an end to it. They only know the beginning, but they won’t know its end. If you have a good motive behind the protest, some people may have an ill motive, and anything destroyed in the cause of the protest in Kebbi is to the disadvantage of the Kebbi people.”
