In response to the improving security situation within the Jos-Bukuru metropolis, Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has relaxed the previously imposed 24-hour curfew.
Effective from Wednesday, August 7th, 2024, residents are now permitted to move freely between the hours of 2 pm and 6 pm daily until further notice.
This decision follows consultations with security agencies and aims to balance public safety with the need for normalcy.
The initial 24-hour curfew was enforced on Monday, August 4th, 2024, due to violent protests linked to the #EndBadGovernance movement. These protests had escalated into looting and property destruction by hoodlums.
The curfew was a precautionary measure to enhance the security of lives and maintain public order, as stated by Musa Ibrahim Ashoms, the Plateau State Commissioner for Information and Communication.
Governor Mutfwang emphasized the importance of continued vigilance to prevent any potential breakdown of law and order. He assured that the government would keep reviewing the curfew as the situation evolves.
Residents are urged to cooperate with security personnel and report any suspicious activities promptly. The governor reiterated the government's unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of all citizens.
