Gov Adeleke Approves Dual Carriageway Project for Iwo Town

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has taken a major step towards enhancing infrastructure in the region by approving the construction of the first dual carriageway for Iwo town.

This announcement was made during the annual Iwo Day celebrations, signifying the administration's commitment to regional development and improved connectivity.

The dual carriageway project is set to transform the Adeeke-Odori road, which will be executed in two distinct phases. The first phase will stretch from Odori to the Post Office area, with a branch extending in front of the Oluwo’s palace.

This phase aims to ease traffic flow and provide a modern road network for the central part of Iwo, thereby facilitating smoother movement within the town. The second phase will extend the dual carriageway from the Post Office to Adeeke Junction, further boosting infrastructure and ensuring the seamless movement of goods and people.

Governor Adeleke emphasized that this initiative aligns with his administration's broader goal of expanding infrastructure across Osun State. He stated, "In line with our commitment to equity and fairness, our administration has approved a dual carriageway for Iwo. The dualisation of the Adeeke-Odori road will be done in two phases." This project is expected to massively improve economic activities in the area by enhancing connectivity.

To ensure community involvement and address any concerns, Governor Adeleke directed the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure to host engagement events with stakeholders on the proposed highway. This approach highlights the administration's dedication to transparency and collaboration with local communities.

During his speech, which was delivered by his spokesperson Olawale Rasheed, Governor Adeleke also highlighted some of the achievements of his administration in Iwo. These include the rehabilitation of the network of roads and improvements to the Iwo waterworks, among other initiatives. Such efforts demonstrate the administration's ongoing commitment to improving the quality of life for residents in the region.

Furthermore, Governor Adeleke reaffirmed the position of the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, as the President of the Iwo Council of Traditional Rulers. He urged the traditional ruler to continue exercising his vested powers with a sense of accommodation, fostering unity and progress within the community.

The President of the Iwo Board of Trustees, Lai Olurode, also addressed the gathering, calling on the indigenes of the town to rally support for the Oluwo. He expressed confidence in the traditional ruler's ability to transform the community within a short time. Olurode assured that the leadership of the board would continue to demonstrate a high standard of volunteerism and patriotic zeal in the development of the town.
