GOAT: Who Said Messi is Better Than Me – Cristiano Ronaldo Questions [Video]

One of the most celebrated footballers in the world, Cristiano Ronaldo recently found himself at the center of a light-hearted exchange that has since gone viral.

The incident occurred during a collaboration with MrBeast, the renowned YouTuber known for his extravagant challenges and philanthropic endeavors. This particular interaction took place in November 2024, when Ronaldo participated in a penalty challenge alongside MrBeast and his friends.

During the challenge, MrBeast's crew playfully teased Ronaldo by suggesting that one of their members, Nolan, believed Lionel Messi to be the "GOAT" (Greatest of All Time) over Ronaldo.

The YouTuber exclaimed, "Nolan says he doesn't like you, he thinks you're not the GOAT," pointing towards Nolan. He continued, "Nolan's the guy on the end over there, he thinks Messi's better! He calls it soccer and he said Messi's the GOAT."

In response, Ronaldo, with a smile, retorted, "Who said Messi is better than me?" before bursting into laughter. This moment, captured on video, quickly spread across social media platforms, delighting fans worldwide.

The playful banter between Ronaldo and MrBeast's crew highlights the ongoing debate among football enthusiasts about who truly deserves the title of the greatest player of all time—Ronaldo or Messi. Both players have had illustrious careers, each boasting an impressive array of records and accolades.

Ronaldo, often referred to as "Mr. Champions League," has achieved remarkable success in the UEFA Champions League and on the international stage with Portugal, winning the European Championship and the UEFA Nations League.

On the other hand, Messi has enjoyed massive triumphs with Argentina, including winning the Copa America in 2021 and leading his team to victory in the 2022 World Cup.

Despite the rivalry that has defined much of their careers, both Ronaldo and Messi have expressed mutual respect for each other's talents. In recent interviews, Ronaldo has stated, "The rivalry is over. It was good, a healthy rivalry that spectators liked a lot." He emphasized that while they may not have a personal relationship outside of football, he hopes they can look back and laugh about their competitive years together.

Statistically, the comparison between the two legends is a close contest. Messi holds the record as the all-time top scorer in La Liga and has provided the most assists in the competition's history. Meanwhile, Ronaldo is the all-time top appearance maker and goalscorer in the UEFA Champions League. When it comes to individual awards, Messi has won the Ballon d'Or eight times, surpassing Ronaldo's five. However, Ronaldo has been crowned UEFA Player of the Year more frequently and has won league Player of the Year awards in multiple countries, showcasing his versatility and adaptability.
