German President Steinmeier Set for Official Visit to Nigeria

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier is scheduled to arrive in Nigeria for a three-day official visit from December 10 to 12, marking the third high-level diplomatic

exchange between Germany and Nigeria since President Bola Ahmed Tinubu assumed office in May 2023. This visit is anticipated to bolster bilateral relations, with a particular focus on economic collaboration.

President Steinmeier will be accompanied by a delegation of top industry leaders from Germany, representing sectors such as IT, high-tech, and energy. This entourage underscores the potential for investment opportunities and technology transfers between the two nations. During his stay, President Steinmeier is expected to meet with key Nigerian leaders, including President Tinubu and Dr. Alieu Omar Touray, President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). These meetings are poised to influence regional economic strategies significantly.

In addition to official engagements in Abuja, President Steinmeier's itinerary includes a visit to Lagos, where he will engage with prominent Nigerian cultural figures.

Among those he will meet are Dr. Nike Okundaye, renowned for her contributions to Nigerian art, and Nobel Laureate for Literature, Prof. Wole Soyinka. These interactions highlight a broader cultural diplomacy effort.
