German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier has arrived in Nigeria for a state visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations.
The visit, which commenced on the night of December 10 and is scheduled to conclude on December 12, 2024, marks a pivotal moment in Germany-Nigeria diplomatic engagements.
Upon his arrival at the presidential wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, President Steinmeier was warmly received by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
This visit shows Germany's commitment to fostering deeper ties with Nigeria, particularly in economic and cultural sectors.
During his stay, President Steinmeier is set to engage in high-level discussions with Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the President of the ECOWAS Commission, Alieu Omar Touray.
These talks are expected to cover a range of topics, including economic cooperation and regional security.
The German leader's itinerary also includes a visit to Lagos, where he will meet with business leaders and explore opportunities for collaboration in Nigeria's burgeoning start-up ecosystem.
Additionally, Steinmeier will interact with prominent figures from Nigeria’s cultural and civil society sectors, such as Dr. Nike Okundaye and Nobel Laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka.
His visit to Lagos will also focus on urban development challenges, reflecting Germany's interest in addressing environmental and social issues within Nigeria's rapidly growing megacity.
