The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has initiated a comprehensive investigation into a viral video depicting an assault on one of its personnel by a female passenger along the Lekki-Epe Expressway in Lagos.
The incident, which occurred on November 7, has prompted the Corps to call for the immediate prosecution of the involved parties.
According to a statement released by Olusegun Ogungbemide, the Corps Public Education Officer at FRSC Headquarters in Abuja, the altercation began when a patrol team flagged down a Toyota Corolla for a seatbelt violation.
Upon inspection, it was discovered that the vehicle's papers had expired since December 2022, leading to its impoundment.
While the driver complied with the arrest, a female passenger became confrontational. "She verbally assaulted the arresting marshal and threatened to prosecute them for doing their job," the statement noted.
The situation escalated as the woman physically attacked the officer, an act captured in the viral video.
In response to the incident, the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, expressed deep concern over the increasing assaults on FRSC personnel.
He emphasized the need for legal recourse rather than violence, stating, "The motoring public should always channel their grievances through proper administrative processes or take appropriate legal actions."
To manage the situation, the Divisional Police Officer of Ajah Police Station was called to intervene. The police swiftly arrested both the lady and the driver for further investigation.
