Four men are set to stand trial in Paris next year over allegations of online harassment against French First Lady Brigitte Macron.
The charges stem from derogatory comments made online, likening her to a "paedophile," and spreading disinformation about her gender and age difference with President Emmanuel Macron.
The relationship between the Macrons, marked by a 24-year age gap, has often been a subject of media scrutiny. Brigitte Macron, who met Emmanuel Macron while she was his teacher, has faced persistent online attacks. In August, she filed a complaint leading to an investigation into cyberharassment and incitement to commit an offence, according to the public prosecutor.
Among the accused is Aurelien Poirson-Atlan, a publicist known on social media as "Zoe Sagan," who is associated with conspiracy theory circles. His lawyer, Juan Branco, has criticized the charges, claiming they represent an "obvious political direction."
The trial, scheduled for October 2025, will address "malicious comments about Brigitte Macron's gender and sexuality, as well as her age difference with her husband," prosecutors stated.
