Nigeria's House of Representatives witnessed a major political shift on Thursday as four federal lawmakers from the Labour Party (LP) defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). This defection was officially announced by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen on the floor of the House.
The lawmakers who switched allegiance are Chinedu Okere representing the Owerri Municipal/Owerri North/Owerri West Constituency in Imo State, Mathew Donatus from the Kaura Federal Constituency in Kaduna State, Akiba Bassey of the Calabar Municipal/Odukpani Constituency in Cross River State, and Esosa Iyawe from the Oredo Federal Constituency in Edo State.
This move is part of a broader trend of defections that have been reshaping the political landscape in Nigeria, with the APC gaining strength at the expense of opposition parties like the Labour Party.
