A Chester FC fan was found dead just hours after allegedly making racist gestures towards Bohan Dixon, a black player from Warrington Town, during a local derby match.
The incident unfolded as Dixon celebrated his team's goal, leading to objects being thrown onto the pitch amidst chaotic scenes at the Cal.Delivery Stadium.
Video footage capturing the gesture quickly circulated on social media, sparking widespread condemnation.
Chester FC expressed their dismay, stating they were "angry and dismayed at an alleged instance of racism" and committed to sharing video and photographic evidence with Cheshire Police.
The club emphasized that "racism has no place in sport or society," promising an indefinite ban for anyone found guilty of such behavior.
They also condemned "the actions of a minority who are unable to behave responsibly," acknowledging the ongoing Football Association investigation into the matter.
The fan, whose identity remains undisclosed, was due to be questioned by police but was reported dead in Flint, North Wales, under circumstances deemed non-suspicious.
A Cheshire Police spokeswoman confirmed, "During the match between Warrington FC and Chester FC on Saturday, November 30, police were made aware of a racially aggravated public order offence.
Sadly, the man was reported to have died at an address in Flint on Sunday, December 1."
