Fisayo Soyombo Exposes Shocking Details of Oil Bunkering Operations in Nigeria

The founder of the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ), Fisayo Soyombo, has shared startling insights into the pervasive issue of oil bunkering in Nigeria.

Recently released from detention by the Nigerian Army, Soyombo disclosed that his undercover investigation exposed significant security protection for illegal oil operations, implicating high-ranking individuals.

Soyombo stated, "It would shock you the kind of people who escort illegal oil bunkerers out of Port-Harcourt."

He criticized the Army spokesman for compromising his safety by publicly acknowledging the presence of illegal bunkerers.

This revelation highlights the deep-rooted corruption within the military and other sectors tasked with overseeing the oil industry.

The journalist emphasized the severe underestimation of crude oil theft figures, noting, "The crude we were to move was for 50,000 barrels.

If the man who got annoyed that he wasn’t bribed didn’t talk, we would have had two trucks moved out." This statement underscores the lack of accurate records for daily oil barrel lifting, pointing to systemic failures in monitoring and accountability.
