This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Service Public Relations Officer (SPRO), Mr Abubakar Umar, in Abuja on Sunday.
The NCoS also said seven other detainees had been recovered. Umar said the service keeps data on missing prisoners.
Floods caused the collapse of walls of correctional facilities, including the Medium Security Correctional Centre (MSCC) in Maiduguri, and staff quarters in the city.
281 of the prisoners were found missing after military personnel, with assistance from sister security forces, evacuated the prisoners to secured facilities.
"However, it is important to note that the service stores data, including biometric data, is made available to the public.
The service is working in synergy with other security agencies as both covert and overt operations were used to locate them.
“Currently, a total of seven (7) prisoners have been recaptured and returned to custody while efforts are being made on the ground to trace the others and return them to custody.
As long as these efforts continue, the public can be assured that this incident will not impact public safety.
