The Federal Government of Nigeria has issued a directive prohibiting licensed flight crew members from working for multiple airlines.
This decision, announced by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), is detailed in a circular titled "PROHIBITION OF AD-HOC FLIGHT OPERATIONS FOR MULTIPLE AIRLINES," dated November 6th.
The circular, signed by Acting Director-General Capt. Chris Najomo, highlights the safety risks associated with pilots and crew members operating for more than one airline concurrently.
The NCAA's findings indicate that such practices compromise industry safety standards. As stated in the circular, "Instances where pilots operate for more than one airline concurrently without safety considerations of such actions pose a safety risk to the industry."
This directive, which took effect on November 11th, 2024, mandates that all operators and holders of pilot licenses adhere strictly to this regulation.
Violations will be treated as breaches of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations, with the NCAA prepared to enforce appropriate actions against non-compliance.
The NCAA emphasized that the licenses issued to pilots are operator-specific, based on approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The authority further clarified, "The Flight Simulator Training Device/facility approved by the Authority is operator specific based on the training program and the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for such an operator."
