The Federal Government of Nigeria has launched an investigation into allegations of unlawful salary deductions and unpaid promotion arrears affecting officers within the country's paramilitary services.
This probe, initiated by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, comes in response to complaints from personnel in the Nigeria Prisons Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS).
These officers have reported unexplained deductions from their salaries, allegedly made by the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).
The affected officers have expressed frustration over not receiving their promotion arrears and have called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene.
They question why their allowances remain unpaid despite the release of funds, especially when their counterparts in other agencies under the Ministry of Interior have received their due promotions and entitlements.
In a statement addressing these concerns, Ahmed Ja’afaru, Secretary of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board, assured that "a detailed investigation is underway."
He emphasized the board's commitment to resolving these issues swiftly and ensuring fair treatment for all personnel involved.
