FG Increases Farmers Inputs to Discourage Excessive Use of Chemicals

Nigeria's Federal Government has announced an initiative aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity while reducing the reliance on chemical inputs.

This strategic shift was unveiled by Senator Abubakar Kyari, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, during the 46th Meeting of the National Council on Agriculture and Food Security held in Calabar, Cross River State.

The government plans to increase support and inputs for farmers, focusing on boosting natural food production. A cornerstone of this initiative is the development and application of organic fertilizers, which will be made available to both large-scale and smallholder farms.

As Minister Kyari emphasized, "Our assistance to farmers in the provision of inputs has contributed to the output of crops. We will always facilitate rural communities, roads, electricity, boreholes, water harvesting structure, land clearing activity and appropriate technologies."

This approach not only aims to enhance agricultural productivity but also aligns with global trends towards environmentally friendly farming practices.

The initiative shows the government's commitment to advancing national agricultural strategies and ensuring long-term food sustainability. Governor Bassey Otu, represented by his deputy Peter Odey, praised these efforts, noting that they would uplift Nigerian farmers and guarantee food security.
