FG Cracks Down on Civil Servants Receiving Salaries From Abroad

The Federal Government of Nigeria is actively pursuing an investigation into civil servants who continue to receive salaries while residing abroad.

This ongoing probe, as confirmed by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Walson-Jack, aims to address and eliminate such irregularities within the system.

Speaking at an event in Abuja on November 25, 2024, to mark her 100 days in office, Walson-Jack emphasized the government's commitment to ensuring that individuals who have relocated abroad for better opportunities do not benefit from the Nigerian payroll system.

President Bola Tinubu has directed that any civil servant found to be drawing government salaries after relocating must refund the funds received. Additionally, department heads and supervisors who facilitate these practices are to be held accountable.

The investigation utilizes the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) to track staff movements and verify their locations. Walson-Jack noted, "Some progress has been made, and we will continue to monitor the situation until it is fully addressed."

Reflecting on her tenure, Walson-Jack expressed gratitude to her staff and acknowledged the contributions of the 'Super Permanent Secretaries,' which she credited for a seamless experience in her first 100 days. She also reassured Nigerians of her office's collaboration with the Federal Civil Service Commission to tackle job racketeering, pledging to sanction those who obtained jobs through fraudulent means.
