American rapper and music mogul, Kanye West is embroiled in a legal battle with his former security guard, Jonathan Monroe. The lawsuit, filed by Monroe, alleges that he was unjustly terminated after requesting payment for his services.
According to Monroe, West had agreed in August 2021 to pay him $30 per hour to provide security at a Malibu residence, which West was renovating following his split from Kim Kardashian.
Despite working between 36 to 50 hours each week, Monroe claims he did not receive any compensation and was subsequently fired in October 2021 after voicing his concerns about the unpaid wages.
The legal documents reveal that Monroe is seeking unpaid wages, interest on the owed sum, and punitive damages. This lawsuit comes three years after his brief employment with West. The case also sheds light on West's real estate dealings, particularly the Malibu mansion designed by Japanese architect Tadao Ando.
Initially purchased in 2021, the property was listed for $53 million but eventually sold for approximately $21 million after West slashed the asking price by $14 million. The mansion, featuring four bedrooms and five bathrooms, remained under construction at the time of sale.
