Thirteen former Boko Haram fighters, who had previously surrendered to the Borno State government, have escaped with rifles and motorcycles provided to them as part of a reintegration program.
According to ICMNEWS, these individuals were among thousands of ex-combatants and their families who had been integrated into military operations against insurgents in northeastern Nigeria.
The escape occurred between September 1st and 2nd from a camp in Mafa, with eight fighters fleeing initially, followed by five more the next day.
Malik Samuel, a researcher with expertise in jihadi groups in the region, noted that the escapees contacted Abdullahi Ishaq, a special adviser on security matters, threatening to unleash further violence.
