Manchester United manager, Ruben Amorim has made it clear that his primary focus is on winning the Premier League, despite the club's participation in the Europa League.
Since taking over the managerial reins, Amorim has been vocal about the challenges and expectations that come with leading a club of Manchester United's stature. He acknowledges that while the club is historically massive, it currently lacks the status of being a "massive team" in terms of performance.
Amorim's tenure at Manchester United began with mixed results. In his first five games, the team managed to secure two victories, one of which was in the league, but also suffered defeats, including a notable loss to Arsenal. This has placed them in the bottom half of the Premier League table, highlighting the work needed to restore the club to its former glory.
The Portuguese coach, who boasts an impressive track record with a 70% win rate from his previous managerial roles, is determined to instill a higher work-rate among his players.
He has emphasized the importance of fitness and effort, stating, "Impossible to win the Premier League without a team that doesn't run." Amorim believes that even the best players cannot succeed without putting in the necessary physical effort, and he is committed to improving this aspect through rigorous training sessions.
Despite the challenges, Amorim remains optimistic about the future. He is in the process of identifying his preferred starting XI, having made nine changes across his initial line-ups. The manager is keen on managing player workloads effectively, especially with key figures like Bruno Fernandes showing signs of fatigue during matches.
Amorim's ambition is not just limited to domestic success. While the Europa League presents an opportunity for silverware, his sights are firmly set on the Premier League title. He understands the need to manage expectations, given the club's illustrious past, but insists that belief and hard work can bridge the gap between their current state and their aspirations.
