#EndBadGovernance: Police attack, injure Premium Times journalist

On August 1, 2024, during the #EndBadGovernance protest in Abuja, police officers attacked and injured Yakubu Mohammed, a reporter for PREMIUM TIMES.

Despite wearing a press vest and presenting his identity card, Mr. Mohammed was assaulted with the butt of a gun and batons, resulting in head injuries.

The incident occurred near the Head of Service Building in the Secretariat area, where he was briefly detained in a police van.

This attack is part of a broader pattern of violence against journalists in Nigeria, as highlighted by recent assaults on other reporters, including Joy Odigie in Edo State and the Kaduna State correspondent.

The Coalition for Whistleblowers Protection and Press Freedom (CWPPF) has condemned these attacks, emphasizing the need for press freedom and protection for journalists.
