#EndBadGovernance: Court Imposes N10Million Bail on 10 Protesters


Ten members of the #endbadgovernance# protest group accused of allegedly trying to overthrow President Bola Ahmed Tinubu between July 1 and August 4 this year. Justice Emeka Nwite gave ruling on their bail applications and granted bail.


Among other things, the protesters must each provide a surety in the same amount and the surety must be a resident of Abuja. Additionally, the guarantor must be a property owner in Abuja and must submit property documents to the court in addition to a certified statement of funds.


Furthermore, both the defendant and the guarantor must submit to the court their foreign passports and three recent passport photographs. The judge ordered them to be held in prison until their respective bail conditions are met.


Meanwhile, their trial is set to begin on September 27. The defendants are accused of committing treason during a week of nationwide protests, during which they allegedly launched a war against Nigeria.


These offences violate sections 96, 410 and 413 of the Penal Code. The IGP inspector, who opposed them, said that the defendant had entered the Army of the Abachi Army, and called for soldiers to seize President Tinouve's constitutional government.


He also said that they tried to enter the place of power, during which they burned the police station and injured the police. They are also said to have incited Nigerians against the government and vandalised several public facilities, including police stations, a high court and the National Communications Commission (NCC) compound.


The defendants are: Michael Tobiloba Adaramoye, Adeyemi Abiodun Abayomi, Suleiman Yakubu, Opaluwa Eleojo Simon, Angel Love Innocent, Buhari Lawal, Mosiu Sadiq, Bashir Bello Nurudeen Khamis and Abduldaram Zubair.
