At the "We, Robot" event held at Warner Bros. Studios in Southern California, Tesla CEO Elon Musk introduced the world to the Cybercab, a groundbreaking innovation in autonomous transportation.

This fully autonomous vehicle, designed as a robotaxi, is notable for its lack of traditional driving controls such as a steering wheel, accelerator, or brake pedal.

Musk emphasized that the Cybercab aims to democratize access to autonomous transport by offering it at a price point below $30,000, potentially disrupting established ride-hailing services like Uber and Bolt.

The Cybercab's operating cost is projected to be approximately 20 cents per mile, significantly undercutting the average city bus operation cost of about a dollar per mile. Production is expected to commence in 2026, with availability anticipated before 2027.

Musk envisions this vehicle as part of a broader shift towards individualized mass transit, where cab drivers could manage fleets of these autonomous vehicles, akin to shepherds tending their flocks.

In addition to the Cybercab, Tesla unveiled the Cybervan, a larger autonomous vehicle designed to accommodate up to 20 passengers or transport goods, further addressing high-density transportation needs.

The event also featured Optimus, a humanoid robot intended for domestic use, highlighting Tesla's commitment to pioneering affordable, autonomous solutions that could reshape both personal and public transportation sectors, as well as household robotics.

Musk asserted that autonomous vehicles will make transport "ten times safer" than human-driven cars, drawing parallels to the safety improvements seen with automated elevators. He stated that the transition to fully autonomous, unsupervised self-driving systems would significantly enhance safety compared to current supervised systems.
