EFCC Announces Asset Recovery with Forfeiture of 753 Duplex Estate from Government Official

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of Nigeria has achieved its largest asset recovery since its inception in 2003.

A Federal Capital Territory High Court has ordered the final forfeiture of a vast estate in Abuja, which spans an impressive 150,500 square meters and comprises 753 duplexes and apartments.

This property was previously owned by a high-ranking government official, who is suspected of acquiring it through illicit means.

The EFCC leveraged the Advance Fee Fraud And Other Fraud Related Offences Act alongside the Nigerian Constitution to secure this forfeiture.

The agency's chairman emphasized the importance of asset recovery in the fight against corruption, stating, "Asset recovery serves as a significant deterrent to fraudulent activities and is crucial in our ongoing efforts to combat corruption."
