Edo Government, BEDC Partner to Bring Fair Billing to 500,000 Homes

The Edo State Government, in collaboration with the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), is set to embark on an ambitious project to meter approximately 500,000 homes across the state. This initiative, which aims to eliminate the persistent issue of estimated billing, will commence on August 13, 2024 and cover all three senatorial districts.

Enaholo Ojiefo, the Commissioner for Mining, Energy, Oil and Gas, announced this major development on Saturday.

He emphasized the project's goal to provide every household with a government-subsidized meter, ensuring accurate billing and improved customer satisfaction. "The exercise will begin on August 13 in order to eliminate the problem of estimated billing in the state," Ojiefo stated.

The meters, covered by an insurance policy, are expected to be delivered to subscribers within ten days of payment. Subscribers can log into the payment portal starting from August 14 to facilitate this process.

The management of BEDC, represented by Chairman Kings Akuma and Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer Deolu Ijose, was present at the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding.
