The tumultuous relationship between Nigerian musician Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, and Queen Dami, the estranged wife of the late Alaafin of Oyo, has come to a public and contentious end.
The saga, which has been unfolding over several months, reached its peak when Portable accused Queen Dami of being involved in the death of the Alaafin and subsequently chased her out of the apartment he had rented for her.
The controversy began when Portable expressed his displeasure at Queen Dami's participation in a late-night TikTok session, which he deemed inappropriate for someone he considered his partner.
This incident sparked a heated exchange between the two, with Portable accusing Dami of infidelity and even suggesting that she had a hand in the demise of the Alaafin. In response, Queen Dami vehemently denied these allegations, stating, "I didn’t kill the Alaafin. I had left the palace before he passed away."
Queen Dami, who had previously been married to the late monarch, found herself embroiled in a relationship with Portable, a self-proclaimed street king, in August 2023. Their relationship was marked by frequent public spats and accusations, with Portable often taking to social media to air their grievances.
In one such instance, he accused Dami of chasing women away from his bar and failing to appreciate his financial support for her son, the child of the late king.
The relationship, which lasted for two years, was fraught with allegations of physical abuse, emotional manipulation, and public humiliation. Queen Dami accused Portable of repeatedly attacking her, causing physical harm, and threatening to use her for rituals.
She recounted a particularly harrowing incident where she lost consciousness due to his brutality, prompting her to lie to her mother about her situation. "One day you beat me and I passed out. I had to lie to my mother that day," she revealed.
Despite the tumult, Queen Dami maintained that she had remained faithful to Portable throughout their relationship, refuting his claims of infidelity. "No man has slept with me since I started my relationship with you. God will judge between us," she declared.
She also criticized the living conditions provided by Portable, comparing them unfavorably to those of other women involved with him. "Is that what your mates rent for their wives?" she questioned, highlighting the disparity in treatment.
Portable, on the other hand, painted a different picture of their relationship. He claimed that he had taken pity on Queen Dami due to her circumstances following the death of the Alaafin and had provided her with an apartment and financial support. However, he alleged that she had attempted to cast a spell on him and accused her of being a "prostitute."
In a video released shortly after their breakup, Portable stated, "God wouldn’t allow me to associate with people that want to bring me down. Queen Dami, the online wife, has packed out."
The public fallout between the two has captivated audiences, with many following the developments closely. Queen Dami, who had previously made headlines for fleeing the Alaafin’s palace and later returning to apologize, found herself once again in the spotlight. Her quest for love after the monarch's death led her to Portable, but the relationship ultimately proved to be another chapter of turmoil in her life.
As the dust settles on this high-profile breakup, both parties have moved on, albeit with lingering animosities. Queen Dami has publicly declared her intention to distance herself from Portable, stating, "I’m done with 'mad musician'." Meanwhile, Portable continues to navigate his complex personal life, which includes multiple marriages and relationships.
