Director of "I, Robot" Accuses Elon Musk of Stealing Designs for Tesla's Latest Innovations

The director of the 2004 sci-fi film "I, Robot," Alex Proyas has publicly accused Tesla CEO Elon Musk of appropriating designs from his movie for Tesla's latest technological innovations.

The controversy erupted following Tesla's "We, Robot" event held at the Warner Bros. lot in Burbank, California, where Musk unveiled new prototypes, including the Optimus robots and self-driving vehicles like the Cybercab and Robovan.

Proyas took to social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, to voice his grievances, posting side-by-side comparisons of Tesla's products with designs from his film. "Hey Elon, can I have my designs back please?" Proyas quipped, highlighting the striking similarities between the futuristic mechanics depicted in "I, Robot" and Tesla's new offerings.

The film, set in 2035, explores a world where human-like androids operate under Isaac Asimov’s three laws of robotics. It stars Will Smith as a detective investigating the suspicious death of a U.S. Robotics founder. Proyas's post quickly gained traction, being shared over 14,000 times, with many users expressing support for the director.

Tesla's event, initially scheduled for August but postponed to October due to technical modifications, was highly anticipated. However, it led to a significant stock drop, reflecting investor disappointment. Despite the backlash, Musk's unveiling of the Cybercab, noted for its wing-like doors and absence of traditional controls and the Robovan, capable transporting goods or up to 20 people autonomously, marked a significant moment in Tesla's ongoing innovation journey.
