Dirctor of REA Faces Court Over Alleged Multi-Million Naira Fraud

Director of Human Resources Management at Nigeria's Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Suleiman Garba Bulkwang, has been arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on charges of financial misconduct.

The case, which was brought before the Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday, November 22, involves allegations of criminal diversion of funds and money laundering amounting to N223,412,909.

Bulkwang is facing a five-count charge, with one of the accusations stating that he "counseled one Umaefulem Donatus Chibueze, the Managing Director of Cees Assist Resources and Brainstask Value Resources," to illicitly transfer N138,123,969 from funds paid to consultants by the REA.

This act is alleged to be in violation of the Money Laundering Prevention and Prohibition Act 2022.

Another charge claims that in July 2023, Bulkwang "indirectly converted the sum of N45,000,000" through various companies, knowing these funds were proceeds of unlawful activities.

Despite these serious allegations, Bulkwang has pleaded "not guilty" to all charges.

The presiding judge, Justice Abdulmalik, has adjourned the case until February 3, 2025, for a bail application hearing. Until then, Bulkwang will remain in custody at Kuje Correctional Center.
