Cletus Obun, a prominent figure within the All Progressives Congress (APC), has openly declared that destabilizing the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is part of his party's strategic duties.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today program, Obun, who previously served as the chairman of the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties in Cross River State, emphasized that such tactics are legitimate as long as they do not incite violence.
Obun's remarks come in the wake of criticism from Segun Sowunmi, a chieftain of the PDP, who attributed internal crises within the PDP to President Bola Tinubu’s controversial appointment of Nyesom Wike as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
Sowunmi had criticized this decision, made in August of the previous year, suggesting it contributed to the destabilization of the PDP.
Addressing these accusations, Obun stated, "If PDP comes out to say so, it’s the worst political confession to be ever made. If you’re saying that we’re able to infiltrate PDP and destabilize them, it’s part of our duty to do so, just as it is their work to also ensure that the APC is destabilized; so long as it’s not disruptive to become violent. It’s a good political weapon to use."
