Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has taken on a mediatory role in the ongoing legal dispute involving renowned human rights lawyer Dele Farotimi and esteemed legal luminary Afe Babalola, SAN.
Peter Obi visited Afe Babalola at his office in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, with the intent to "beg" for the embattled activist, Dele Farotimi.
This visit comes amid heightened tensions following Babalola's petition that led to Farotimi's arrest and subsequent remand in Ekiti prison.
The situation has sparked widespread criticism against Babalola from various quarters in Nigeria.
During the visit, Obi engaged in "in-depth discussions on critical issues," as reported by social activist Moses Paul, who shared images of the meeting on X. Paul noted, "Today, Mr. @PeterObi traveled from Lagos to Ekiti State, dedicating the entire day to meaningful engagements."
The court has since granted Dele Farotimi bail, setting the amount at N50 million with a surety in like sum.
Despite this legal relief, Obi's intervention shows the complexities of the case and his commitment to fostering dialogue between the involved parties.
Following his meeting with Babalola, Obi proceeded to the prison facility where Farotimi is held.
In a private meeting, he expressed solidarity with Farotimi, engaging in what was described as a "candid exchange aimed at addressing the prevailing challenges."
