Nigerian music sensation Davido has ignited a heated discussion following his recent interview with a U.S. radio station, where he candidly criticized the state of Nigeria's economy.
During the interview, Davido urged Africans in the diaspora to reconsider returning home, stating, "Leave America and go where? Go back where? It's not cool back home. My country now, the economy is in shambles."
He highlighted several pressing issues, including the unfavorable exchange rates and high oil prices, despite Nigeria being an oil-producing nation. "Imagine a country that produces oil.
We produce the oil and we are paying more money for oil than a country that imports the oil," he remarked, showing the economic challenges facing the nation.
The interview sparked significant backlash from Nigerians, who accused him of "de-marketing" the country. In response to the criticism, Davido took to his social media platform, X, to defend himself.
He asserted that people were upset because he is "the real ambassador who showcases the country in a good light."
Additionally, he criticized TVC station and praised his own accent during the interview.
