The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced ac massive seizure of petrol allegedly intended for smuggling into Cameroon. The operation, known as "Operation Whirlwind," successfully intercepted a total of 71,965 litres of petrol from Adamawa and Taraba States.
This seizure was valued at over N81 million. During a press briefing in Yola, Husseini Ejibunu, the National Coordinator of Operation Whirlwind, detailed that the confiscated petrol included 1,124 jerry cans of various capacities, 53 drums of 200-litre capacity, and 21,000 litres contained in two fuel tankers.
Ejibunu emphasized that this operation is part of an ongoing effort to combat illegal fuel smuggling, which has also led to the interception of 14 fuel tankers suspected of product diversion. Of these, 13 were handed over to the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) in Yola, and one in Taraba, for further action.
The anti-smuggling efforts have reportedly contributed to a stable supply of petrol in Adamawa State, signifying the commitment of the NCS to curtail illegal oil marketing activities.
