Idris Okuneye, widely recognized as Bobrisky, was on the evening of October 31, 2024 re-arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at Lagos's Murtala Mohammed International Airport. This arrest occurred just days after Bobrisky had been released on bail by Nigerian police authorities.
The dramatic incident unfolded as Bobrisky was about to board a flight to London. Eyewitnesses reported that Nigerian authorities halted the aircraft just before takeoff, escorting the visibly distressed social media personality off the plane in full view of other passengers.
Bobrisky took to Instagram shortly after the arrest, appealing for public support with the message: "Nigerians help me, EFCC just arrested me. I'm badly injured." This event follows a series of legal challenges for Bobrisky, who was detained by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) at the Seme border the previous week, allegedly while attempting to flee the country.
The crossdresser has been under investigation following an audio recording in which he purportedly claimed he was allowed to serve a six-month jail term outside Kirikiri prison due to "influential connections."
Bobrisky has denied these allegations, dismissing the recording as "fake" and threatening legal action against the social media critic who leaked it. Despite the controversies, an investigative panel recently stated that there is no evidence confirming Bobrisky served any jail time outside the prison facility.
