Cross Rivers Governor Otu Approves ₦70,000 Minimum Wage for Workers

Governor Bassey Edet Otu of Cross River State has approved a new minimum wage of ₦70,000 for workers.

This announcement was made on Monday, December 2, following a productive meeting with labor leaders.

Governor Otu emphasized his administration's commitment to improving the lives of the workforce, stating, "The welfare of our workers remains a top priority for this administration.Together, we build a better Cross River State."

This decision marks a substantial increase from the previously set ₦40,000 minimum wage announced in May, which had faced criticism from residents.

To ensure a smooth transition to the new wage structure, a Joint Public Service Negotiating and Implementation Committee was established in November.

The committee, led by Dr. Innocent Eteng, the state Head of Service, included representatives from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC).

Governor Otu's initiative reflects ongoing efforts to align with broader labor expectations and address previous criticisms regarding worker compensation.
